  • Nothing too much trouble

ilikefoodbolton, Bolton, UK — November 2018

Hotel only 3 minutes walk from town centre so close enough to be convenient to access by foot but far enough so as not to be bothered by noise from pubs etc. The breakfast is continental but so much of it and the bedroom and bathroom are big. Car park is an added bonus. We received a very warm welcome and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Would recommend.

  • Lives up to its reputation

    Martin K, Glasgow, UK — November 2018

Top-notch quality from comfortable rooms to friendly, helpful staff to a really excellent range of offerings at the continental breakfast. You definitely get what you pay for, and while Ambleside is quite a small place and so location isn’t too big a deal, it’s still located in a great central place. Would book again without hesitation – in fact, I did!

  • 2 night stay

    Lee_RTMc, — October 2018

What can I say. I’m usually rather adamant about staying in bed and breakfasts, but this experience has surely changed my approach. We welcomed by Chilla, who took her time out to show us around the venue and to our room which was really kind if her. Breakfast is a continental only but there is enough choice to fill your belly up ready for the day ahead

I will certainly be back at some point in the future

Thank you again Brathay for a wonderful stay. All the best

  • Very comfortable, excellent service, great value

Stayed three nights with my family at the end of June. We arrived before the check-in time. The front desk lady was very polite, offered to store our luggage while we eat out lunch, and expedited cleaning of our room. This was much appreciated as we had just spent about 4 hours on a road.
The room was a good size, very clean and with interesting rustic style furniture. Bathroom was comfortable. The window and balcony were facing parking lot, we did not hear much noise from the street.
The continental breakfast was fantastic. I traveled enough in England to be able to compare. This was, indeed, the great surprise.
I really would not describe this as B&B, I would rather say it is a small hotel with an old fashioned service in terms of personal attention from the staff.
Why not five star “excellent” ranking – It was unusually warm for that side of England. First night, when we finally got to the room, it was very hot and did not really cool down during the night. We would have appreciated AC very much. The weather is getting warmer, the owners need to consider some investment into AC.

  • Great quality B&B in the Lakes

    stephenyates797, — October 2018

Myself and 2 walking friends turned up here one Saturday morning and were fortunate to get a triple room for the night. There were quality touches throughout the room and house which made for a very comfortable stay. Instead of the usual cooked breakfast, the breakfast buffet included an excellent choice of cereals, fresh and dried fruit, cold cuts, bread, croissants and waffles etc. The staff were also very warm and friendly.

  • New Year Stay

    Shani F, TripAdvisor — Monday, 01 January 2018

We have stayed in Ambleside many times as we love it there but had never stayed at the Brathay Lodge before. We had such a lovely stay there. Our family room was lovely, newly renovated, clean and very spacious. The tea and coffee making facilities were stocked up everyday and rooms cleaned to a high standard every day. Breakfast was a continental breakfast but there was plenty of cereals, fruit, bread and croissants etc as well as as much coffee, teas and juices as you wanted. Trevor the manager was lovely and really easy to get along with, nothing too much trouble as were the ladies that we met that worked there. The Brathay itself is extremely well located and just a few yards from the main streets, overlooking the bowling green. We would definitely stay here again.

Great central location, lovely superior double room which was very comfortable and spotless! Such friendly and polite service from checking in until checking out, nothing was too much trouble! Trevor and Karen were both really nice and welcoming. Continental breakfast was delicious and plenty to chose from, dining room lovely and spotless! We would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends and family 🙂

  • A lovely place to stay in a great location

    Aly738, — Tuesday, 23 January 2018

We had a lovely visit here. It is in a great location, pretty much in the center of Ambleside. It has plenty of parking (at a premium in Ambleside!). The rooms are spotlessly clean and the beds are comfortable. There is a lovely selection of food for the continental breakfast (all you could ask for). Each room (I think) has a DVD player – great for those rainy days (after all it is the Lake District!!!) or after a long walk in the fells. Everyone here is so friendly – couldn’t ask for more. Definitely recommended 🙂

  • Lovely Weekend Away

    Alison L, — Tuesday, 23 January 2018

Stayed at Brathay Lodge for a long weekend mid-January.

We received a warm welcome and the room was ready when we arrived at lunchtime (although they weren’t particularly busy on that day)! Very chatty and told us everything we needed to know.

The room was beautiful, we had a four poster room on the 2nd floor. There is no lift, but the stairs are fairly easy. Stunning views and a nice seating area. It was lovely and warm with all the radiators on, and the water was really hot, so lovely for a relaxing bath after a long walk.

The Lodge is literally just a couple of minutes walk to the town, so took no time at all to walk home after dinner and drinks out. It’s a lovely town with plenty of places to eat and drink and some fabulous little shops.
Breakfast was great, no huge fry ups as we would normally have, but loads of choice and made a change to have a healthy, but filling breakfast. The fruit and yogurt was delicous.
We visited in mid January when the town was fairly quiet. Not all restaurants were open and Brathay Lodge wasn’t full to capacity. For us, it was a lovely time to go, nice and quiet and thoroughly enjoyable.

We would visit again definitely and thank you so much for a wonderful weekend.
