Staveley Trail Race & Challenge

Staveley Trail Race & Challenge

May 05, 2018 @ 9:00 AM

Starting and finishing at Staveley Recreation Ground (LA8 9LN), the NEW! 5km Kentmere Sport Trail, 10km Kentmere Trail Run, 17km Kentmere Trail Race and 17km Kentmere Trail Challenge courses follow well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways, taking in panoramic views of most of the southern Lakeland fells. The trail climbs out from Staveley above the Kentmere valley, before returning along the valley itself past idyllic tarns and through ancient woodland, climbing Reston Scar before the descent back into Staveley village. Underfoot conditions are quite variable and there's a bit of everything! Short sections of tarmac, grassy footpaths, stony bridleways with some stiles to climb over near the end, all add to the unique nature of the event.

Not just a race, but an occasion. Voted the most scenic marathon by the readers of Running World it’s bigger, better and as beautiful as ever. Finish this breathtakingly beautiful course, amidst a carnival atmosphere, in the grounds of Brathay Hall with its stunning views over England’s largest lake. “Spectacular - beautiful scenery, excellent organisation, well-spaced refreshment stations, very friendly atmosphere - I can't fault anything about this race!" The 26.2 anti-clockwise lap around Lake Windermere takes in the honey-pot sites of Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside. Over half the course is run on partially traffic-free roads or roads with a dedicated running lane. Runners say it’s very well organised, the marshals are very friendly, it has outstanding local support and, to top it all, you will get to see the inspirational men and women who will be completing the final marathon of their 10in10.
